Summary:
Portugese partner sought for collaboration in H2020 MAELSTROM (MArinE Litter SusTainable RemOval and Management) projectShort summaryA dutch start-up has developed an innovative and validated solution for capturing plastic pollution in rivers and canals. As part of a large EU project (14 partners), which aims to implement innovative and sustainable technologies to intercept and remove litter from rivers and sea beds, the start-up is responsible for designing and implementing their solution in Portugal. They are urgently looking for a Portugese partner committed to act on plastic pollution to support the implementation.
Full description:
The dutch start-up has developed an innovative, validated and highly scalable and replicable solution for capturing plastic pollution in rivers and canals. The bubble curtain (by pumping air through a perforated tube on the bottom of the waterway), covers the entire width and depth of the waterway, without hindering ship traffic or fish migration and thereby continuously preventing plastic waste from reaching the oceans.
This most energy-efficient approach has proved to capture 86% of floating test materials. It can collect items as big as 1 meter and as small as 1 millimetre (from windsurf boards to Christmas trees and even small plastic Styrofoam particles). The solution has been tested and implemented in the Netherlands.
EU Project
MAELSTROM (MArine Litter SusTainable remOval and Management), a large EU H2020 project consisting of 14 European parties, aims to implement innovative and environmentally sustainable technologies to intercept and remove litter from rivers as well as the sea bed. The project aims to research ecological status before and after implementation of the technologies.
Collaboration
The Dutch start-up is responsible for designing and implementing the solution in Vila do Conde, Portugal as one of the methods for collecting marine litter.
They are urgently looking for Portugese partners committed to act on plastic pollution to support and sponsor the implementation and collaborate create a real impact for the environment and society.
